Tidy house, happier life
We know how we feel when our house is dirty and there’s tons of laundry to do and a pile of dishes in the sink. Bummed. Depressed even. But a clean house that smells fresh? Somehow our mood changes. But what about the process? Does that have as much effect as the end result?
The enjoyment of having our house back the way we like it? We don’t know. But it’s true that after cleaning, energised, we often pick up the phone, invite friends over and maybe even bake a little something…
A HEALTHIER FAMILY
This might seem obvious to you, but a lot of people seem to forget about it. Dust, mold, bacteria, etc can cause health problems like allergies or even asthma. Cleaning your house regularly will help your family stay feeling good and healthy!
MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO BE HOSPITABLE
Keeping your house clean means that you are more ready for unexpected situations, like a friend coming in town! You won’t ever have to worry about a rush cleaning session, or your friends (more likely family members in my case ;)) judging you for a messy house.
LESS MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS
Keeping your house clean and tidy, including your furniture and appliances, means you’ll probably end up spending less money and time on maintenance. Tips
A QUICK BURST OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Housework and exercise are motivated by the same personality characteristics: a desire to release endorphins, self-regulation, and a mindset for future goals. Daily chores like cleaning your house, mowing the lawn, cleaning the car, shopping for food and other things are all examples of moderate exercise, which helps improve health and fitness.
NOT WASTING TIME
I know it sounds super simple, but taking just a few minutes to put items away right after you’re done using them has an amazing effect. Not only will you have less of a mess to clean later, you’ll easily find an item within seconds of needing it. This in turn, saves time, and time is just as important as saving money!
The next time you feel like your life is spiraling out of control, take a good look around your home. What do you see? Is it full of toys? Clutter? Stains? Crumbs? Those things might be a huge cause of anxiety and frustration.
We can choose to sweep or vacuum crumbs off the floor, wipe down the counters, and get rid of clutter, which has an immediate effect on our mood.
SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
It also encourages you to continue the habit in the weeks, months, and years to come.
Either way, cleaning makes that little bit of inconvenience worth it in the long run, and leads to a happier, productive, and healthier life overall.
Yep, it takes time….and work, but the more control we have over our environment, the better we feel in control of our lives in general.
